Reform Policies

White boys don't under perform:

DEI is resented:

Perhaps we should scrap it as something that does more harm than good.

But for some reason, it only affects poor Caucasian boys, but not other poor boys.

Sometimes the obvious answer is the simplest. The most likely reason these boys fail is because of a lack of work ethic. Or maybe they believe they shouldn't have to work as hard. And then they get professional **** stirrers telling them that they are victims.
I was a **** at school. Because I was an utter genius so was bored.

There will always be a few exceptions like you.

But we are talking in general about why, on average, poor white boys end up being 'disadvantaged'. Which is what Reform claim.

One argument is that they are victims and there is nothing they can do to help themselves. Another argument is that they just don't work as hard.

I also did badly at school, due to dyslexia. Got diagnosed late, did well in college, Uni and never looked back. I don't blame the teachers, they often don't have the smarts needed to be successful in the big world.

My oldest son was the same. His Dyslexia is worse than mine. Graduated top of his class and got a great job.

we were discussing the downsides of DEI policies and why Reform plan to change the Law, you seem to have wondered off.. again.

No, we were discussing Zia Yusuf's claim that DEI policies were the reason that poor Caucasian boys failed. And being objective and rational, I started at the beginning with school. The main reason these boys fail is that they do badly at school and don't get the grades they need for work or university. And I have been asking which DEI policies you believe cause them to fail at school.

For some reason it made me think about Shameless and whether that is an accurate portrayal.

Its not something I have claimed.

Well, that is the root cause of these boys failure. Reform would be better off trying to address that, rather than inventing some fantasy victimhood to wish it away. Maybe that is too much like hard work, though.

We can apply Occam's Razor.

Why didn't a particular boy get a job interview?

Is it:

A) Because he has no GCSEs

or

B) Because the employer put out a friendly advert saying they welcomed applications from everyone including minority groups which are currently under represented.

Pretending a complex problem is simple tends to lead to a solution that ignores the complexity.

The reality is companies are encouraged to set quota, targets etc and those entering at the bottom are the easiest to apply the filter to. It has nothing to do with qualifications. Sadly, I have been guilty of doing it myself.

We have a goal to increase xyz in the company, so it's easy to choose those that tick the box in the graduate assessment days. The "white boys" were at a significant disadvantage, something I was quite ashamed of.
