Why does a tumble drier tumble when moisture extraction not running with delay start?

Due to solar panels, battery, and off-peak tariff I use the delay start on tumble drier, washing machine, and dishwasher, both the tumble drier, and washing machine, will rotate the drum every so often while waiting for the time to start, but the washing machine does not tumble clothes every so often when completed the cycle, and they are in a drum just the same as when in the tumble drier before the cycle starts, I could see if using iron dry option a tumble drier would tumble clothes after the cycle had finished, until door opened, (which it does not do) but why before it starts?

Energy efficiency rating maybe. Could be burning electricity so the advertised rating would wrong

No point a washing machine turning after it’s completed .

I still have a problem with delayed starts, main one is reading the names on the buttons, as don't do it that often, but the times on washing machine we set end time delay, why not simple start time delay? Some have ½ hour increments, and some 1 hour increments, with all it is start time that matters, as water heated early in the cycles, and even with tumble drier, late in the drying we often get a mark/space ratio of the heat pump running, and by time the off-peak finishes we have fully charged batteries to continue the process, which will be recharged latter when the sun comes out with a bit of luck, so want it to start after 00:30.

What I am trying to do is get away with not buying a third battery. I use around 12 kWh per day, and the battery provides around 5 kWh, and we hope the sun will start charging battery before it runs out, which it normally does, and the battery will last dusk until 00:30 which this time of year, it doesn't in the main, but the amount of peak used does not warrant a third battery.

I did consider turning off freezers in the evening, but should any fail to turn back on, the loss would far exceed the gain, so not worth the risk. Big problem is time we do cooking, having the main meal at 2 pm instead of 6 pm would likely save a lot, but can't get wife to agree to the change.

For me it's the end time that matters. I load the washing machine late at night, guess what time I'm going to get up in the morning, and set the delay so that the machine finishes at around that time. When I get up, I hang the washing outside. I don't want it to run earlier than necessary as the spin noise could be disturbing. So I have to mentally work out "9.30 AM minus 4 hours 22 minutes minus ten past midnight" and round to the nearest whatever, which I don't always get right.

Of course, sod's law says that I have a machine that sets the start delay and you have one that sets the end delay; would you like to swap?

I remember the first house, with a car port (undercover drying area) and that was ideal, no dashing out to bring in washing, or re-washing due to bird lime. The garden BBQ and soot was less of a problem, but all in all, rewashing resulted in moving to the tumble drier to save money. Yes, it was cheaper to use a tumble drier, than to re-wash.

On in the old house replacing the vented tumble drier, the vent was on the wrong side, so set to high, it would sometimes trip due to kink in the pipe, so always run on low setting of 1 kW, the timer allowed a maximum of 90 minutes, and most clothes would be dry in that time, sometimes put on a second time, so used 1.5 kWh at around 36p at standard rate, the heat pump 2.5 hours at 650 watts so 1.625 kWh slightly more expensive.

But heat pump drier is slightly larger, and don't need window to be left open, so saves on heating for the house, but about same power use to vented, but drying time automated.
