Donald Trump appears to be "ticking his own boxes" when it comes to his war aims in Iran, US correspondent Mark Stone reports from Washington DC.

Reacting to the comments made by the president that Iran had gifted "a very large present" to the US, he says: "Is it a figurative present in that they have opened or guaranteed the safety of all ships in the Strait of Hormuz? We do not know. We will see.

"That would be a game changer if the Iranians can be believed, and they are not a good actor in all this."

There are also questions as to why Trump is now choosing to believe Iran if it says it will no longer seek nuclear weapons, when his negotiators were not willing to take their word for it before the war during talks in Geneva.

"This is a very hard one to read," Stone adds.

"I might be sounding a bit flippant, but this is the leader of the free world, and he is not talking sense right now."

I was watching him give a speech today. He said (of the Iranian leadership) something like this

All the Iranian leaders are dead, they're gone, we've killed them all, no one knows who to deal with.
We're dealing with the right people.

Come on, the only reason he's getting away with spouting this stuff whether verbally or on his 'Truth' Social is cause he's holding the top job. A bit like a manager at work who is sh1te but, because they're the manager ...

Why on earth would they do that? They've already suffered due to Iran's attacks on oil facilities, if they attack them Iran stops holding back and their big vulnerable ports go up in flames.

The nations around Iran are not happy with Iran, but they would be the ones living with the cost of the invasion and trusting the US to support them is clearly insane.
