The public generally disagree with the war, so such a tragedy in a war they didn't want is nothing to celebrate.

Trumps only hope is that the Iranians do a deal that allows him to claim victory.
If they don't and he withdraws unilaterally, then the Iranians will be in a stronger position than before the war started.
They have made clear that the Gulf states that have American bases will have to get rid of them.
So Trump has no choice , either walk away, which would be disastrous for America's image in the region or go up the escalation ladder, how far he goes up will depend on how much resistance the Iranians put up, given that the Iranians have been preparing for this war for 20 years, it could mean the Americans will have to invade Iran and occupy the country.
That could mean conscription in America to fight in a war that most Americans don't want and the fact that Iran still has enough enriched Uranium to make a number of nuclear bombs, things could escalate out of control very quickly.

It isn't the nuclear device that is difficult to develop, it's the delivery system.
And Iran has vast areas of uninhabited desert and mountainous areas, which USA would have to cross in its invasion of Iran.
A US ground invasion of Iran would almost certainly require crossing extensive deserts and rugged, mountainous terrain, making it vastly different from the relatively flat terrain of the 2003 Iraq invasion. The terrain consists of mountains and central deserts (Dasht-e Lut and Dasht-e Kavir), which would make logistics challenging.

So if Iran used a nuclear device within its own boundaries on invaders, it could only be a defensive tactic.

So it'd be back to USA's indiscriminate bombing, which will only enrage Americans and the ROW.
