It's like the police, you cannot police a prison full of violent criminals if you are frightened or intimidated by them. Same as the police cannot control a violent mob, they back off and retreat. You need to recruit men like me who could intimidate them to deal with violent criminals and not mice. Same as the police, they recruit lefty's and university graduates. Completely silly.

Decades of underfunding and increasingly harsh sentencing means the prison population has been increasing, plus the population has been increasing.

There's no truth to the idea there's loads of spare capacity, you need a level of beds free at any time to avoid everything locking up, pun intended. We're something like 97% capacity at the moment.

Either we feed fewer bodies in or we take bodies out faster. Accelerated construction is nice in theory but unlikely in practice.

sentencing has become more and more lenient, the shorter the sentence the more likely to offend (a few years for dragging a policeman behind your car until he his dead)

That's just flat out wrong. Its made up, false, incorrect, utterly totally wrong. That you believe it means you do not know what you're talking about.

From memory the only category of crime that is treated less harshly now than in 2005 is vehicular crime of various sorts.

Biggest problem with the police is that they employ little girls to control an increasingly violent country. They're not up to it.
