Just got fined sixty quid and a three point penalty for doing 65mph on a deserted motorway at a quarter to four in the morning. There was a fifty limit in force because one lane had been coned off for daytime roadworks.
The bit that made me laugh was the above claim in the paperwork that came with the notification.

That is the issue with society today. We want to be able to do what we want, as long as it doesn't affect others. The problem being that most of what we do in one way or another does.

I speed (on occasion), I smoke, I like a pint or 2, I tell little white lies, I will accept, on occasion, something on the cheap even if it is 'slightly warm', but before anyone starts barking on about, "thats the problem, people like you, blah, blah, blah....", show me one person who is honest and forthright, and I'll show you 10 that aren't.

The point is that there was actually no reason for the speed limit to be in force: it was a safety measure for when works were going on. What was unsafe about his driving at that time in the morning? Speed limits are variable on the M25, so why not in roadworks?

I've already accepted the points and the fine, but the point I was trying to make was about the sheer cheek of sending out information with the paperwork to the effect that " this is not about generating extra revenue, it's for road safety". Do me a favour, 65 on a motorway ffs, in the dead of night, and deserted. Do they think that people are completely stupid, well, some are obviously. I have learnt a lesson by the way, I'll be watching out for those [removed] speed traps more carefully. [removed]

Sooey...theres another point you might have missed here..the speed limits are there not only to protect innocent parties but aslo to protect outselve from ending up as a bunch of flowers and a cheap wooden cross on the side of the rd..bit the the principle of the crash helmet.

The fact that the motorway was empty is really neither here or there..would it be ok for a biker to not wear a helmet just because there was no one around?

Accept it...ive been done in similar circumstances...39 in a 30 at 3 in the morning..its the way it goes.

It makes me wonder sometimes, how on earth have I managed to grow up into a big boy and still have all of my appendages? I mean without someone else who knows better than I watching over me like a guardian angel every moment of my life, ffs. By the way I have already accepted it, as I have previously stated, got caught, koff up, end of story. I don't have to be happy about it, and certainly not when those same "altruistic guardian angels" have the nerve to tell me that " although people may feel aggrieved to be penalised in the early hours, when their is not much traffic, people could well be tired at those times and less aware". People could well be tired and less aware at three in the afternoon if they haven't been to bed the night before, or are ****ed or under the influence of any amount of drugs. If people think that I am going on about this, that wasn't my intention, I am just trying to answer points raised by others. The bottom line as far as I am concerned is, get caught, get fined, fair enough. Get patronised into the bargain, fook off.
