hi to all,
quite recently the car is making a rattle near the timing chain end.it is quite evident at idle and seems like the problem is worsening.ive checked all bolts near the vicinity..alternator and drivebelt etc and its definitely coming from camshaft orcylinderhead.i know that without anybody looking at it properly that diagnosis may be tricky.also there is rough idle sometimes(whirring noise)..ive looked in the good book and itsays the problem could be valve clearance, worn cam lobe or faulty tappet?? dont know what else to type(have i just answered my own question  ),
thanks for any replies

hi mate-there suckers for eating bottom pulleys, the centre of the pulley is rubber and fatigues, at tickover its resembles a shaking vibration noise- but doesnt look or feel that way at revs- but only when blipping the throttle it rasps, it doesnt sound like a traditional ticking of a tappet though- could it be that???

130 squid for new belt and tensioner from fraud and 80 all in from local motor factors..local me thinks
