would I need to leave a gap between the tile and the insulation material ? If so, is there a particular method to do this ? (sorry I am a novice at this, as you can probably gather)

Have just bought a house in France where there is no felt under the roof tiles and no insulation. I want to insulate between rafters what product should I use - I do not want to take of the tiles and lay felt and roof is in good condition.
