    Carpet tiles over old floorboards

I'm looking to replace our carpet in our makeshift home office with carpet tiles, however, the floorboards are old, warped and uneven. If I ply line the floor do I need to leave an expansion gap around the skirting? If so, what's the recommended gap? Also what size ply would people recommend...

    Run-on timers

Thanks, SunRay. I went ahead and purchased the same one in the end. Haven't installed it fully yet, but tested against my new fan and all works well. The casing is a little cheap, but it's going in the loft so not too worried. Thanks all

    Run-on timers

I'm looking to add a separate remote run-on timer to an existing bathroom fan. The fan is rated at 8w/240v. Looking at the Manrose 1351 it mentions minimum load of 20w, so no good. Can anyone recommend a decent run on timer please? Anyone used the RT5A timer? I won't be adding an integrated...

    Repairing gutter clips from above

I've found that our flat roof garage has two broken clips on the gutter causing water to leak down the side wall. Easy fix. However, our lovely considerate neighbours built their extension less than a foot away. Meaning that I'm unable to fix face on (as you normally would). So forced to fix...

Damp patch on concrete near to pipes

Just spoken to the plumber and he can swap out the plastic with copper, but has advised that joining to the old pipe would have too much water left in to solder. So would need to use compression fitting. Which, to me, seems no different to what I have now. He has soldered copper fittings under...

Damp patch on concrete near to pipes

Because I was advised by the other plumber that this would be OK. Why use these type of connectors at all if they will leak?

Unfortunately not. Does that affect the screed used?

Damp patch on concrete near to pipes

Managed to get a decent plumber in to rectify the areas that I was concerned with. So all good now, thanks. Still have a PEX pipe in place as this was preferred. Now that it is all dry & no further leaks I'd like to screed over. Would a 4:1 mix of sharp sand and cement serve to fill in the...

Damp patch on concrete near to pipes

Thanks for your feedback on this, really appreciate it. I would be happier putting copper back in with a proper soldered joint & wrapped. Then the pipes would come in closer to the wall and the fittings could be done correctly. Just need to find a decent plumber to do the job now :(

Damp patch on concrete near to pipes

Apologies for the tardy response and thanks for everyone's replies. I've had a plumber in today to dig up the pipes as that seemed like the best way of checking. Appears that it was a slow leak caused by a hole/dent in the pipe on the hot feed. It wasn't where we expected, but due to the slope...
