  • I have had plumbing and a pump for a thermostatic mixer shower professionally installed - pump in the airing cupboard, cold feed from loft to pump, hot feed from hot cylinder. I then tiled and fitted the mixer valve and shower head myself. The shower worked really well as expected on 3 occassions over the weekend.
I tried to use it this morning and nothing happened - no pump noise and no water. On turning the temperature setting on the shower to its coldest, the pump kicked in and a good pressure of cold water flowed. The hot then came in on turning the temp back up gradually but soon the pressure dropped a lot. It seems to me there is a problem with the hot feed.
The only thing I can think of is that the manual says your hot shouldn't exceed 60C, and my shower this morning was immediately as the water heating had been on for a couple of hours, where as the 3 showers over the weekend were all a good 2 or 3 hours after the water heating had finished. Could it be that the valve is not letting the hot through as its 'too hot' which is why it works briefly when feeding back in from cold only? My boiler is quite old so there are no temp controls for the water on the outside (I will check tonight is there is any controls under the outer cover).
