A sad reminder of why dodgy fitters and diyers are dangerous

Not really as I did state that not all details are known yet. I posted it to make people think about what they are doing and whether they are capable and using the correct tools, not to point blame at anyone. I only posted it hoping that it would make people aware and not to examine the...

A sad reminder of why dodgy fitters and diyers are dangerous

But this means that they are exempt from responsiblity because they are not qualified and have just put a nail through a pipe? When putting nails or screws in a wall would you not check for pipework first? wedginald - I agree that is why I stated COMPETENT RGI. compheat - Big coincidence...

A sad reminder of why dodgy fitters and diyers are dangerous

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/new-kitchen-probed-after-gas-blast-wrecks-homes-2122867.html Not all the details are available yet but there is a seriously hurt pensioner in hospital and 10 others injured, caused most likely by poor workmanship. I'm not saying DIYers are...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Just reading these posts infuriates me, how can our industry regulator (which is so keen on stamping out this kind of work) basically ignore it. Surely nipping this in the bud now is far better than waiting for someone to die. But it does appear that that is what it takes to get them off their...

    male fitting

it could be 1/2 inch.By asking for an 11mm one you are leading them into thinking it is metric, show the merchant guys the fitting and see what they can find. If this is fruitless then ask if it could be half inch.

    valliant 242E hot water

if the boiler doesn't fire until you manually make the micro switch it is likely to be the diaphragm, this is not always easy to change but if you're fairly handy with a screwdriver you should be fine. As for it overheating were you running the tap when you manually made the switch? If not...

Vokera- Water is lukewarm - radiators fine

From the symptoms it could be a problem with the amount of gas going to the boiler. the working pressure of the boiler should be tested at the boiler and meter also it would be worthwhile checking the gas rate. Unfortunately you will not be able to do this yourself.

    The Infamous Potterton Profile 50e

Did you do that plumbing yourself? it looks shocking. The picture of your pump has a black section below it where the wire goes in, this will be where your speed adjuster is. Is there power at the pump? is the pump running? to check remove bleed screw on it and put a screwdriver inside. I...

Gas Central Heating - Noisy Header Tank

It's possible that its pumping over this is were water from the system enters the header tank via the open vent. The open vent is generally a curved pipe entering the top off the tank. When the noise occurs do you see water coming from this pipe? and afterwards is the water in the tank hot...

Pressure relief valve on boiler should it be purged outside

You probably misunderstood him, the pipe must terminate outside either facing back into the wall or less than 300mm from the ground. Before putting the thermostat back on the valve turn it up to full, it should go on easier then.

    changing a cylinder thermostat

If you have a multi meter put it on resistance (ohms) attach the probes to two of the three spades. and adjust the temperature on the stat. if you do not get continuity (the expected reading would be OL) then the one you have not attached your probes to is common. Then attach one probe to...

CH only works if HW already on, after replacing 3-port valve

The neutral for the pump doesn't have to be connected into the boiler as well, just as long as it is connected.
