Above ground drop wire closure - attach to wall?

Cable ties, either onto the clamp (curly thing) if there's enough slack, or using small nails (the type from a hammer in cleat) nail a couple of thick cable ties to the wall and clamp it with those. That's how i do it.

Telephone or CAT cable for ADSL

They may have it, but in the real world nobody uses it. And most Openreach engineers, as Bernard said, just go to the stores and pick up 2/4/8 pair internal, they dont care about the spec, more what they find easier to work with. BTW, BT insist on using CAT5 to run data extension ports from...

Telephone or CAT cable for ADSL

BT are a service provider. A salesman if you like. Altering the characteristics of a copper pair anywhere between the DSLAM and the router/modem will always have a negative effect on the pair. Having aluminium joined onto copper will have a negative effect. As will changing from a few KM of...

Phone extension socket slow Broadband speed!

If you're in fibre you need an "ssfp" service specific face plate. It needs to go on the "master" socket.

Telephone or CAT cable for ADSL

Telephone cable for ADSL/VDSL. Because its "tuned" to be best through a low twist rate copper pair. Even VDSL using frequencies up to 17MHz ish.. Once it goes through the router, the frequencies used are much higher, so cat 5/6 is used.

    No BT broadband, reason?

I'm a BT Openreach Broadband engineer. To explain how broadband works would take a few hours, and pages to explain in full. Did you have a more specific question? edit, Bernard has explained it pretty well, but he meant to put ASDS/VDSL on the higher frequencies...

    Rewire by a competent person.

Hi all, (hello BAS) I started a thread a while back about moving my meter, and got banned.. Hmm, DIY? or DIYnot? I'm wondering? I'm just doing my own place up to sell on, and move onto the next.. Anyway, I've found a great spark who is willing to let me do the 1st fix on a complete...

Boiler Condencer pipe and Soak away

You should really plumb it in if you can, Mine puts out a pint every couple of days, so not a great deal, but if the ground gets saturated and the water blocks the pipe its gong to cause problems. Have you got a rainwater gulley or drainpipe anywhere near the boiler?

loft boarded over - do I need a suspended floor?

Don't let anyone compress the existing insulation if you go for the "light loads" method. I did, then when i screwed the boards down it cracked 3 ceilings... lesson learnt!

    Bathroom Heating

Thanks All. Will probably go for the electric towel rail plus a radiator, sounds like the towel rail alone will not be sufficient to heat the room. Now to persuade the other half..

    Bathroom Heating

Hello, We (me and missus) are in the process of renovating our first house. It's a 50's ex-council end of terrace, the bathroom is in the outside upstairs corner above the kitchen. Two of the walls are outside facing cavity walls. Question is, What do people do to heat their bathrooms. Rad...

Wireless camera via a WIFI bridge

A wireless bridge sounds like the best idea to me. Something like this should work. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ubiquiti-NanoStation-Loco-M2-Outdoor-Wireless-Client-Bridge-Access-Point-/221699932430?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item339e58810e There's instructions on how to set them up on...

Quick price check - South East

sounds like a fair price to me, that's quite a bit of work. £200 of that would only cover the testing and commissioning. Providing you get a certificate to cover all the work done of course.
