Changed battery of second offending battery - ( felt cold) but read 2.935.
Would have hoped thats a sufficient voltage on a 3v but will research some more.
Batterys probaly are 1.5-2+ years old so despite reasonable voltage...

thanks oldbutnotdead. I think you're right. Definitely a movement noise. Having added some noggins and toenailed some extra screws from the joists up into the firings theres a definite improvement. ( ceiling not plasterboard). I can make the noise happen if i push up on the roof with a 3x2 so...

I just posted something but looking at your comments they might be the answer. If the boards should be fixed 40mm into the joists , does this mean presumably 40mm into the main joists , after going through the firrings?
I too have a grp banging roof!! Definitely heat related , most specifically sunshine.
Its a warm roof and I noticed ( as its not plasterboard yet) that the firrings aren't as tight to the joists as perhaps they could be. Small gaps I can get a thin feeler gauge through in places.I wonder if...
