Tidying up attic storage space, worth getting rafter insulation?

Attic is only used for storage, but dust from the under-tile lining/felt gets everywhere, plus spiders. I want to cover the rafters (with plasterboard or ply), but will insulation boards be beneficial for the whole house from a heating/eco perspective? The floor is insulated already, but...

Fit shower splash screen non-perpendicular to wall for P bath

thanks, yes we do already have a curved curtain rail - the problem is getting the curtain all the way to the wall, and the inevitable gap at the bottom that the kids wont cover up when they shower, and water leaks out (I have seen plastic sausages that you can stick on the rim of the bath by the...

Fit shower splash screen non-perpendicular to wall for P bath

Looking at getting a P shaped bath. The large curved screens don't cover enough so am instead thinking of a narrow glass splash guard by the wall and a shower curtain. Do you think it would look awful for a 200mm wide screen to be installed around 20degrees from the perpendicular to almost...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

I put the 2.5mm in my lovely shed, and bought some 1mm. It's all wired and in place, just waiting for some filler to dry from cracking the plaster making the socket hole. The only suspect thing I did in the garage, was.... I took the live from the light switch (L&E), and the neutral from the...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

Because I have 20 odd metres of 2.5 to use up! :) It's a pain to use where's it's not necessary, so might go buy something more suitable...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

Well so far so good... drilled a nice big hole in the garage ceiling below, and can see right up into the cavity (had some fluffy insulation to poke out of the way first) and to where i need the cable to go. Tomorrow daylight I'll be investigating the garage lights - one switch is a pull cord...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

It's a cavity under the sloped ceiling (because it's too low to be practical). Behind the plasterboard is insulation board (dunno the real name) and the framework to hold up the roof, and then lots of air down to the eaves. (I'd avoid the wood framework!)

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

Didn't know if this was directed to me or not... sorry The fan is in the middle of the ceiling. I'd have to run ugly trunking across and down as I don't really want to cut a channel in the plaster (i know it's not difficult.. I'm trying for a low effort solution) I have had a mild brainwave...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

I appreciate the easiest thing is to get someone in to do it, but it is a cost/benefit exercise. It's not worth paying £150+ (random guess) for it. It's not just money either, I don't want to be pulling out the ceiling if I cannot do it in the cavity above (which I haven't actually checked yet...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

OK, saying that makes me go off and check in more detail... The shower is not on the ring. There are 3 circuits in the extension: lights, ring, shower. It's only 3 small rooms, so no separate up/down circuits. I have looked up close and there's a SQOE063030, which is a RCCB in the extension CU...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

Thanks for your input. Getting into the lights circuit would be problematic, if only (again) for the effort required to run the loop out to a suitable point for a connection. The consumer unit in the garage that serves the extension appears to be MCB only. Though there is an electric shower...

Quick way to get a shaving socket into the bathroom

Hi all I'd like to have a shaving socket in the bathroom, if only to have the toothbrush charger in there (currently sitting on the landing floor, where it's been for 5 years now). According to regs, I can't do it myself, because 1. It's a bathroom 2. It's likely mean a new ring (the bathroom...

Angle Grinder 'not for use with diamond discs'

Hi All I was bought the el cheapo 4.5" angle grinder from b&q (PAG750A). I thought It would be Ok for the few needs I have for one. Unfortunately my research (or the b&q website) was not overly great. So, I know it's cheap, I should invest in better etc etc. But the jobs are (were) small. I...

In that case just stop before the smiley face! (Unless you were recommending a tradesman. I thought he was a carpenter though..)
