How to make screw fit snugly in a hole

I don't have it on me but here's a drawing. It might make it clearer now, if the screw in the middle is too small for the hole, then the two box sections can pivot arround the screw a little but, until the screw hits the edge of the hole.

How to make screw fit snugly in a hole

Hi, I've made a T-joint recently between two sections of aluminium box section and I rivited a sheet aluminium triangle between them to try and prevent rotation, with two rivets in each corner, and a machine screw actualy through the two aluminium box sections. While this did a good job at...

How to use a pop rivet with restricted access

Annoyingly, the gun required at least 20mm of the mandrel to be in it for it to grip, and the mandrel is only 25mm long on all the rivets I scavenged. Looks like it will have to be a screw, lock nut and loctite. Thanks everyone for helping!

How to use a pop rivet with restricted access

I guess you remember my quadcopter, well using the epoxy was for attatching bits and bobs to the frame, but I want to use revets for the actual frame and I'll triangulate the aluminium joints by sandwiching some sheet aluminium between them, using rivets for the triangle and hopefully/maybe the...

How to use a pop rivet with restricted access

Yep, I'll test it tomorrow, or Wednesday at the latest and come back with my results (Really hoping it will work :) ). Otherwise it will have to be a machine screw and nylon lock nut, and I am able to make the same sized hole in the bottom box section too.

How to use a pop rivet with restricted access

I was considering this but I just preferred the idea of rivets, since they will be also used elsewhere and this will be a high vibration use which may get some flexing, so even a nylon locking nut might not be up to it. I'm not completely agains this, I was just hoping there would be something a...

How to use a pop rivet with restricted access

I've just understood what you meant by using a "fabricated spacer", do you mean put one of them between the rivet head and the rivet gun and use it like a temporary extension to the gun, which can be removed afterwards? I'll try this tomorrow and see if it works. Thanks.

How to use a pop rivet with restricted access

The absolute maximum diameter of the access hole would be 12mm, since the actual box section is 15x15mm wide with a wall of about 1mm. the problem is that it's aluminium and so not easy to solder or weld with the facilities available to me, and I want to use a mechanical rather than adhesive...

How to use a pop rivet with restricted access

Hi, i'm going to need to attach two aluminium box sections together and I want to secure them mechanically with pop rivets. However, the problem is that becuase the box section is basically a tube, it will be difficult to use the rivet gun to put a rivet in the lower surface of the tube. Please...

Strength of aluminium and epoxy bond deteriorating

I asked the manufacturer (Evo-stik / Bostik) and they emailed me this: “We normally advocate abrading the surface, as you suggested, with Emery paper or similar. This must be followed by degreasing with a non oily solvent on a clean cloth or plain white kitchen paper. One suitable...

Strength of aluminium and epoxy bond deteriorating

It's part of a team project with the aim of using it for areal surveying so we will have a camera on it, controlled remotely by a Raspberry pi computer. It should be done in March ( although I'm a tad doubtful at the moment)!

Strength of aluminium and epoxy bond deteriorating

Ok, thanks all for replying. I'll give the alcohol a go, as well as using a coarser wet and dry paper. Don't worry, it's only for a DIY Quadcopter drone frame so it's not got onboard lavatories yet!
