Hello
I am having new sash windows installed. These will be made of hardwood. I wondered whether knotting solution should be applied to hardwoods to stop the knots from releasing sap. Or is it a case of only soft woods requiring knots to be sealed?
Thanks
great advice, thanks
I used two coats of MDF primer (water based), then one coat of solvent based dulux undercoat. It is this layer that has the problem and needs to be tidied up.
I will finish with dulux egsheell
So my top coat and undercoat will both be solvent.
Thanks for the help...
hi there, thanks
they are not too deep, they just catch the light because they are circular.
I gave very fine grit sand paper a go already, but it seemed to aggrevate /disturb the paint nearby the problem area too, making a whole patch too rough...

Hello
A quick decorating question. I painted some mdf cupboard doors and applied a dulux undercoat to the front. However, I had one of the panel resting on two paint tins to keep it off the ground whilst the paint dried. I thought it had dried enough, flipped it over and paint the other side...
Hi thanks for the feedback.
aside from the sloppy looking application of the silicone, is this technique of sealing with silicone between the wooden frame and the brickwork (as opposed to pointing with mortar) normal practice?
thanks
Hi mattchip
thanks for the reply.
Just for clarity though: do you mean the way they have done it is "the right way" or is my suggestion of mortar / poitning "the right way"?
Thanks
Just a quick question. We have had a new window fitted into a wall. The bricks were removed to form an opening for the size of the new timber framed window. On the inside the bare brick was bonded and then tiled.
However, my question is whether the exterior of the window has been done...

Hello
I have bought a mirror - 67 x 97 cms. I have bought a thick strong nylon rope / string and threaded it to hang from.
I just need to drill some holes into my chimney breast. Can someone offer advice on the best way to do this?
In particular how long should the screws be? I will...
thanks for that
i can cope if it looks a looks a bit splattered but what im most concerned about is making sure that the water cant get into the wooden frames a round the double glazing.
Is the painting likely to be water tight or could the rain have penetrated the painting do you think...
Just painted the outside of the windows of the hosue - then has started to rain - cant believe it
(the forecast said my area should be rainfree - in case anyone says why not check the forecast)

I have taken three photos of the window frame from outside. It does look like it is need of overhaul. Have a click on teh middle phot especially so you can see it upclose, it does look it has seen better days
Do you think that the moisture could be getting in through there?
