Simplest way of fixing this washing machine waste bodge?

Thanks Madrab. Getting the drain pipe up and over is definitely the plan, it'll just be a pain to get at the pipe without taking the machine completely out as it's very tight. As a quick short term fix, do you reckon that angled Floplast hose connecter might give it enough of a lift (if I...

Simplest way of fixing this washing machine waste bodge?

Hi all, Daughter has just bought a flat and discovered that the washing machine (left by the previous owners) is filling up with dishwater from the sink. Looking under the sink, I'm not surprised (grey pipe is the washing machine waste)... I've yet to get the u-bend off to...

Is it ever possible to properly insulate a disused (external) chimney?

Thanks both. Yep I think you're right Nige. It was built in 1970 apparently, does that bear that out? We could look at internal wall insulation, if that's the only way to do it. Both rooms have been decorated fairly recently though, so it would be a major pain. Is insulating the chimney...

Is it ever possible to properly insulate a disused (external) chimney?

Hi Tell, Thanks for replying. There's nothing to see in the lounge or bedroom internally now. It's just flat plastered/decorated walls. The only fireplace was downstairs and that's been all bricked up for about 7 years (so yep, I'd presume just one flue). I think the darkening at the top of...

Is it ever possible to properly insulate a disused (external) chimney?

Hi all, About 7 years ago we filled/plastered a disused fireplace in our lounge to return it to just a flat plaster wall. The chimney is external and an air brick was fitted to allow air to circulate along the external chimney (see photo). The chimney is also capped with a paving slab (or...

Best way to get power to a wireless thermostat controller?

Hi both, thanks for that. The Tado TRVs are actually quite a new item (they've only just been released in the last month or two) but the Tado thermostat itself has been out for a couple of years. The TRVs are an optional extra to the system, they're not required to run it in its simplest form...

Best way to get power to a wireless thermostat controller?

Thanks so much for that, yes unfortunately on my boiler, the outer cover is the boundary of the sealed combustion chamber. As you can hopefully see in the attached pic, the wiring as it arrives at the boiler (from the switch in the old airing cupboard) comes from a thick white cable (8mm) into...

Best way to get power to a wireless thermostat controller?

Hi all, Sorry, this is probably a bit of a crossover query between electrical and plumbing/central heating. Mods - Please feel free to move it over there if need be. I have a Tado smart thermostat and it's all installed and working fine for the most part. The only niggle is that it's sited...

How to connect ducting to this odd shaped tile vent?

Cheers for that, I think it is actually a Redland DuoPlain Redline like this. I just need to find someone that sells them now I guess. :)

How to connect ducting to this odd shaped tile vent?

Nope that one is too small and so is this one. So it doesn't appear to be from Manthorpe or a Klober? It's a ropey picture but the oval port is about 180mm at the widest and 100mm at the narrowest. Anyone got any ideas?

How to connect ducting to this odd shaped tile vent?

Cheers for that, yeah it looks like this would be close to what I'd need. I'll do some digging! :)

Best inline extractor fan to replace this?

Extractor went in fine thanks John, comes on with lights and runs on after. I've not tested it properly (with a nice hot bath) as yet as I've discovered the ducting wasn't properly connected to the roof vent (as it's a funny shape) which won't have been helping! I'll get a steer on that from...

How to connect ducting to this odd shaped tile vent?

Hi all, We're in the process of replacing an underperforming extraction fan (read all about that over at the electrics forum!). In tackling it I've removed the existing ducting to look at what I'll need to get move from 4" to 5" ducting. I was surprised though to find that the...
