Yes there is a rain cap. Problem with that WC is we tend to only use it during the night and then we don't put the light on (I sit, my aims not that good!) so the extractor fan rarely turns on.

Starting to think you might be right. The problem is that with the plasterboard being so thick you can't hear much difference with the knocking method. Think I'll opt for plan C and just use the self drill heavy duty metal fixings instead.

Turns out it was indeed a cracked main heat exchanger. Luckily enough our plumber knew that even though the boiler was only warrantied for 5 yeas, the heat exchanger had a 10 year warranty. Excellent customer service from Worcester/Bosch, out the next day, flat rate of about £190 for 3 hours...

Thanks so much, only thing is, as I said in previous post, I'm not papering the left hand wall, that's being left painted, only the sloping wall is being papered, so that simplifies things. Once again though thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.
