  • hi jonhol.
if the clay liner you have is up to the job and fit for purpose then it can be used for your appliance. so the need to drop a flexible liner inside it would be a non starter. the only issue would be that it is al ittle big for the stove i'm guessing. your clay liner will be 8" and the stove pipe will be 5-6". too much draw in the flue way can cause the stove to "overfire" and reduce the output. this can be overcome by the use of a damper in the flue way. i take it you have a sump adapter at the botom of the clay liner to go inside your vitreous pipe. if that is the case make sure you use fire rope in the stove collar or an adjustable length to allow the flue to expand. sometimes the mistake is made of fitting a ridgid length and the stove will move on the hearth. the use of an damper does alter the air supply requirement, but it is still only one hole you require. if the house was built after 2008 the air requirements change, but if before you need 550mm sq for every kw over five. when you have he stove lit, look at the flames/smoke in the chamber; and if possible open a window. see if there is a visible change to the flame pictue. if so it is down to ventilation. good luck
Thanks Artisanstone. Its a bit more than I was guessing but its something that ought to be done. I guess when I come to sell the property it will be a must. The stove is in and working, exausting via the existing 9 inch clay flue and the property is only 20 yrs old. At present I burn 90% seasoned wood. Stove has been in for 3 years and works well. I pull it out each summer to sweep the flue and then re-seal it. I'm thinking that if a flexible flue liner was installed it could be cleaned in situ, through the stove ( its rear venting, not top.)
I'm in worcester. Do you know any reliable fitters covering this area?
Didn't know about the venting requirement for 5kw+. Mine is "up to 8kw" I do have vents in the patio windows/doors. Will ensure they are open !! I do have a co2 detector.
    Thanks again for your input.
thanks for the info. I guess we all know that its a job to be done by someone who knows what they are doing BUT how do you know whats a fair price to pay? I want to get mine done but because I live in a decent looking house people think I have loads of money..... and I don't !!! How much is a fair price.?
