How much to fit new boiler?

Couldnt agree more Ped! My mate is a Captain in the Medical Corps in Basra; he had to pull his pistol out 6 times in one day; this is with his rubber gloves on whilst OPERATING !!! Makes us all look overpaid ;)

How much to fit new boiler?

You make it sound as if having a few rads and a pump is comporable to the indulgences of plastic surgery or something - the preserve of the rich, foolish, vain and wealthy? Come to think of it...maybe heating's gone that way in the UK (although you wouldnt be forced into DIY bodging your own...

How much to fit new boiler?

Listen; if you do it for cash my plumbers mate (anaesthetist) will do it for £50 an hour (£200 all in - cheaper than a power flush ;). You'll be back on that dancefloor in no time! I think a discussion about socialism versus capitalism would be more appropriate actually - rather than...

How much to fit new boiler?

Namsag. I'm not questioning the importance and skill of what you do (any more than a mechanic fixing my brakes or a cook not poisoning me). What I question is some people's outrageous mark ups. Watch my mark up if you need a new hip on BUPA and have previously quoted me £2500 for a £600...

How much to fit new boiler?

Ohh please! My heart bleeds - ohh and you forgot to mention having to pay for fuel for the van (my fuel to work isnt even tax deductible - ohh and I never had to go to college for 7yrs unpaid!!!). Also I get paid rather less than some of the. err, busier 'heat the feet' guys - but I only save...

cylinder element needs replacing.. can i do this workaround?

On my fully pumped (not gravity HW) indirect (coil in the water tank) primatic (header tanks in the loft) system (phew!) hot water comes up from the boiler and meets the pump. From here it splits in two. One goes to a zone valve and then the hot water coil; the other goes to a zone valve and...

Sizing boiler output pipes v cycling v pump speed

Fab stuff - thanks guys. I'm going to balance the system after a flush cos I'll need to open all the valves fully for that. Sounds a tedious and hit and miss process! Any more info you can give me on a bypass would be good - is this to help things when all TRV's are shut; I noted my...

Our plumber is depressed and suicidal!

Make sure the everything is off when you bleed those rads - sounded a little like you were doing it with the pump running in one of the posts. As to what the problem is, havent a clue! Turn the telly up & good luck!

    Boiler Sizing

Thanks for posting the links. On that IDHE calculator site do you put down 'two walls front to back' if you have a semi detached house? The difference is 2.8Kw! B

Sizing boiler output pipes v cycling v pump speed

I'm trying to figure out how to make my system work better and if it has been installed properly - boiler tends to switch off before rads are really hot (system is clean)). What's the max BTU (or Kw) you can stuff through 22mm flow and return pipes before the boiler starts cycling due to not...

Should I give up on my cast iron boiler?

Thanks chaps. If i can get a replacement igniter for it (or a hinge on the sight glass for me matches ;)) and have someone check out the combustion and give it the once over I see no reason to give up on it now. It's simplicity must be a bonus - no PCB's or flue fans to stick. If it's 5%...

Should I give up on my cast iron boiler?

I havent used it in weeks for this reason... It wont go back on till it is a brand new white shiny one or the existing one is overhauled - if that is possible.

    Primatic cylinder

Wot even if it is fully pumped, has two zone valves and the HW one remains shut during the drain down and all rad valves firmly shut? Just a guess - wouldnt risk it myself;) Can I ask how you find the Ideal boiler ? Looking at this one myself as a direct replacement for its grandparent! Bob
