No control over hot water from central heating.

Well it was the programmer that was faulty. I disconnected it and there was a lot of dust in and around the casing so gave a good blow and then got the vaucuum cleaner on it carefully and cleared it all out. Works fine now. Thanks v. much for the help. andy

No control over hot water from central heating.

Thanks D. Well My problem is at no.1. I can't turn on the HW at the controller and the therfore the boiler won't fire. I guess it's the programmer or the HW stat then. Thanks for the help. I'll get a new stat first and see what happens. Andy

No control over hot water from central heating.

Hi guys I hope someone can help. I have an Ariston boiler, hot water cylinder and honeywell controls. I've only just noticed that I am unable to turn on the hot water at the programmer(honeywell st6300a) yet the water heats up when the heating comes on. I can control the heating from...

what insurance do builders need ?

Hi all It's been a long time since I posted but was looking for some advice from you guys. We're looking to get some building work done and would like to know what sort of insurance my builders should have. I understand public liability is needed but what insurance is needed if...

    Missing fingers incident.

When I was a young lad about 7 or 8 I had a nasty incident with a food liquidiser. Being an inquisitive kind of boy I wondered whether you could stop the thing from spinning. Fortunately for me my mum had taken out the blade to wash but that didn't stop me from trying to stop the plastic cog...

    advice on SDS drill

Hi all Is this SDS drill from Lidl a reasonable deal? I'm thinking about getting an SDS drill and have seen some at screwfix. I'm only a weekend DIYer but have often thought I could do with an SDS rather than my Bosch Hammer drill for some jobs...

lighting circuit tripping for no reason.

It must have been the fairies - that would explain how my house gets messy when I leave my wife and four year old at home for the weekend !! I filed / sanded down the offending conduit, put insulation tape on it aswell and luckily had enough surplus cable to cut out the frayed bit. thanks...

lighting circuit tripping for no reason.

Hi viewer and JohnD thanks for your responses. I really appreciate it. I got home last night and checked all the light fittings and as you suggested John, the cable had been rubbing against a sharp edge in the metal conduit into one of the switches. Our cables are fed through metal conduit...

lighting circuit tripping for no reason.

Hi JohnD thanks for the swift response. It's actually the fuse for the downstairs lighting circuit that trips (ie it flicks from on to off) - sorry about my lack of knowledge of the terminology. There is an outside lamp but we haven't had rain for weeks if that was possibly any...

lighting circuit tripping for no reason.

Hi all Can I ask for some advice please? About 3 or 4 days ago the RCD for downstairs lighting tripped. Nothing too strange you might think. The strange thing is that the RCD tripped during the day when no lights where on. I reset it and it went back on fine only to trip again about an...

    replacement timber double glazed windows

I think they were the Rolls Royce and Maserati of sash windows! Admittedly their product was good , I saw their references and previous work and it was all Georgian mansion stuff, conservation areas, listed buildings etc. Sadly my house in Hemel isn't quite that grand! Hi bobb Our central...

    replacement timber double glazed windows

Hi Bobb Did you get anywhere with this. I'm in a similar situation in hemel and have been looking for wooden frame double glazing. I tried the Box Sash Window company - (got the link from a post on here) as one of our windows is sash. However after a visit from their sales rep I had...

    Boiler recommendation.

thanks COG. this is what I feared. I thought the flow was about 11 litres/min but i guess it's neither here nor there. Would the worcester Bosch 35CDi be better or should I move away from combi altogether. I only have the Worcester brochure to hand I'm afraid thanks andy
