    Opinion on roofing work

Can you be specific on which bits? I can already see that water is getting to the battens - do you mean that or under the lead (or both?!). It is, as far as I understand. I possibly should have checked sooner, but they were working on some other areas. So I’ve only got out on a stepladder for...

    Replacement Honeywell CM907 Thermostat

I have a Honeywell CM907 wireless thermostat. The screen has gone (seems fairly common!) and whilst it still functions in terms of whatever timer settings I've already got set, if I try and adjust anything its just not having it...

    Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28 - F32

So I’ve just gone and tried it again, this time switching it off on the boiler itself first (rather than at the fuse switch, which is what had happened before) and then turning back on in order. No fault! Have left it on just manual heating for a bit whilst I pop out and fingers crossed it fine...

    Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28 - F32

I've got a Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28 boiler. I think its from 2007, but has been serviced every year since I've been at this house and get the impression from the engineer that services it that its doing ok. There have been a few replacement parts over that time, including the PCB board under a...

Possible asbestos tiles, sealing only parts of the floor

Bumping this back to the top for some advice. The tiles do have asbestos - a professional will be taking these up and then using a pva solution followed by Idenden ET10 or similar. I know it could be a DIY job, but I get quite anxious about this kind of stuff and would really rather just get a...

Possible asbestos tiles, sealing only parts of the floor

Here is the floor in question. Vinyl tiles were tested yesterday so will await those results. The area that isn’t covered by ceramic tiles is probably only about 1m2, possibly less.

    Awkward asbestos pipe encapsulation

I think in future it would make sense to abandon the pipe, in which case this seems a good approach. At the moment though it is staying in-situ as it would be complex to sort the drainage outside. So I’m aiming to keep it safe whilst it is still in use and the kitchen units are moved a bit.

    Velux window and boiler flue

There is a very similar question to this on the forum from a few years ago, but posting again as my circumstances are slightly different and not sure if there might have been a change to the regulations in that time. I have a lean-to, single storey utility room at the back of a Victorian house...

    Awkward asbestos pipe encapsulation

This wastewater pipe from a sink and washing machine are plastic, but then seem to drop into another pipe which then runs embedded in a concrete floor before outflowing into a grate outside. The outside end of the pipe has been tested and is asbestos, so I am assuming that the whole length of...

Possible asbestos tiles, sealing only parts of the floor

Yes, correct. All the visible floor is ceramic and a couple are a bit wobbly - potential damp coming up through. The surveyor lifted one of these up but seemingly it was just adhesive, which was tested. Under the cabinets though it looks like the ceramic tiles have been laid over vinyl. Nothing...

Possible asbestos tiles, sealing only parts of the floor

I have a lean-to utility room (extension to Victorian terrace, but has actually been there for a long long time) is being refurbished. There are ceramic tiles over a concrete floor. I had an asbestos refurbishment survey done which lifted one of the ceramic tiles and found black adhesive but...

    Lean-to roof rafter replacement

Would a standard internal door count as keeping the room thermally separate? The door separates the double skinned, heated part of the house from the single skinned lean-to that is unheated. But its just a standard door. All this discussion makes me think that getting a decent thickness door...

    Lean-to roof rafter replacement

This is what I'm worried about. The original plan, some time ago, was to insulate the walls as well but I was concerned that if there was still an issue with moisture in the room, going all out straight away might end up causing other issues. So the plan is to insulate the ceiling and an an...

    Lean-to roof rafter replacement

I I've this query on another forum, but reading through some stuff on here since makes me think that there could be some useful knowledge as this is a bit more specific. My local BC have also proved very difficult to just call and have an informal chat with, because that would be a great option...

    House perimeter drainage and connections

The concrete is below the air brick (to the left of the image but not actually shown in the photo) but not by much. The bricks below the render are painted with some kind of bitumen or barrier paint so its difficult to see if there difference in the mortar between any of the bricks. Presumably...
