:lol: just checked my mulitmeter against a spare battery in the house and on first try it was reading 40V!! then checked i had it on the DC V (in case it was operator error!) then tried again and had even more (50+V) lol I think we may have found the culprit :D cheers for your help neo

cheers neo, being a newbie to vans the first thing i did was check the battery situation :wink: in case the big beasty had something special going on! tested the multimeter across the battery, so no probs there. the only thing i can think of is that there is meant to be a stepped-up...

basically runs down to 'how much it your time worth to you' - if i knew someone who would carry out one of the fairly mundane tasks like that for a reasonable price and to a suitable quality, then they'd have a customer for life :D

just out of interest - what happens if the vehicle fails? i.e. you need to get it home?

the mrs did this for me :lol: (i'm too impatient for spraying!) and it came out fine. as i understand it you have to rub the whole thing down to make sure there's no lacquer left and then make sure it's really cleaned of dust etc. then slowly build up with fine layers until you get an good even...

once you've charged the battery mate, slap it back in and start her up, then check the volts across the battery points with a multimeter. they should go up from the 12vish normal battery to 14vish. if not the alternator is not charging it (which is what it sounds like) I had exactly the same on...

sorted it - you wouldn't believe it! a fuse was furred up and only allowing 6ish volts through to the instrument cluster (so the signal volts from the alternator was lighting the bulb from the other direction!) ah well, sorted now 8) cheers for the help

no mate, the battery shows just over 12v when left, holds its' charge fine :)
