    Help, I’ve got a leak!

Right I think it’s sorted. I couldn’t push the seal in, and I couldn’t free the white pipe from the seal, so I thought I’ll pull the white pipe out and the seal with it and replace the lot, but as I was doing that, the seal went in the opposite direction and popped itself in place. Perfect!

    Help, I’ve got a leak!

I’ve lived in this house for 3 or 4 years. For a long time, I’ve been able to hear a distant tap when the wife empties the en-suite bath when I’ve been sitting in my office / man cave. The en-suite isn’t above my office, but the plumbing exits the building via a waste pipe in the cavity in...

1930s flooring hole in old kitchen (I think)

Hello, We live in a 1930s house that has several rooms downstairs and has been adapted a lot over time. We are slowly doing renovations room by room. We are currently working on a room downstairs that is between the hall and the kitchen. I suspect this room used to be the kitchen. At some...

Soak away, 1930s, clay, concrete… should I buy some koi and a canoe?

Hi, Appreciate that there are a few similar posts on here already however a lot don’t conclude, aren’t quite the same scenario, or just don’t give me the info I need so here I go! A couple or 3 years ago I bought a 1930s house, which I’ve come to regret a little but I’m stuck here now so must...

Concrete forms - best cheap readily available solutions

Hi, I need to lay a couple of concrete slabs in the garden. The larger of the 2 will be 3m x 2.5m I don’t have any suitable timber to hand, so I’m wondering what the best wood is to buy for forms…. I have all the normal chain stores near me, plus a couple of decent sawmills as well. Any tips...

    Interim gutter repair ideas

Right, I have been back up this morning quickly, went to see if the swan neck could be easily adjusted and the entire down pipe nearly came off the wall. So full replacement it is! I’ll have to wait till tomorrow as that’s the first time I can get another pair of hands to help me lift the...

    Interim gutter repair ideas

When googling the other day, I came across someone who mentioned a product that would line the outlet from the top and connect the 2 back together, but I can’t find that now. Something like that would be my first choice, rather than replacing the entire down pipe.

    Interim gutter repair ideas

Here you go, wheeled the scaffold over (should have also wheeled back) and removed and a thin collar of metal so that the gap can be seen. It’s just started raining so you may get your waterfall shot after all

    Interim gutter repair ideas

Hi, The down-pipe is completely disconnected at the top, and is offset. I can see this in the pictures I posted. I’m sorry you can’t. It’s a dry day today so I’m unable to take a picture of what happens when it’s raining. The rain misses the down-pipe as the down-pipe is disconnected and is...

    Interim gutter repair ideas

Hi, In the not too distant future I will be getting all the guttering done. However, up until Thursday I have access to a scaffold tower and I have a gutter so knackered it’s making a waterfall down the house and a lake on the drive. What I would like is some guidance please on how to do an...

Gap between steel and soldier bricks

Hi, October last year I moved into a 1930s house, that’s had several modifications over time. I really wish I knew what the building was like in the thirties vs. How it is today. Anyhow, there is a double garage to the side of the property. I think these are an add on. The one furthest from...

I forgot mist coat and started to cut in!!!

Hi, I’m a stupid man under a bit of time pressure and couldn’t quite put my finger on it when cutting in contract matt until I was about half way round the room. I then remembered I had forgotten to mist coat. It had been quite a stressful day anyway, and an hour before I had found a gas leak...
