Damp in bedroom ceiling from flashing on chimney stack.

Thanks, Nige. Would you have any idea what sort of costs would be on the agenda, here? :|

Damp in bedroom ceiling from flashing on chimney stack.

Thanks a lot for the link, Yorkie, very useful. I asked about this earlier, catlad. I have done catlad’s water test and taken a few more snaps. There certainly does not seem to be a split in the lead where the water might seep through, but the mortar that holds the rear apron does...

Damp in bedroom ceiling from flashing on chimney stack.

Sorry, I have been away for a couple of days. I will try to carry out catlad’s test with a rag as soon as I can get up there. Yorkie, where is the soleplate? Is it the flat piece at the back that sits under the tiles with the (short) upstand? If, as Yorkie says, we require some pretty...

Having parking sensors installed. Any pitfalls?

 No towbar, so no worries there, gregers. Maybe the current models come with some sort of volume control, Peter. I must admit to becoming pretty irritated at regular loud bleeping. Thanks, chaps. Benny

Right, I’ll carry this test out as soon as I can. Which corner are you referring to, catlad? cwb, is that the back gutter Xenon referred to earlier – I am assuming that this is the same thing? Sounds sensible, though. I will test the lead first as catlad suggests and then work out the best...

Having parking sensors installed. Any pitfalls?

I will have a look into all of those re the links. Very helpful. Yes, John, the types that you describe incorporated in the number plate seem to be available from Hellfrauds. As they offer a fitting service I suppose this is their way of avoiding liability of damaging bumpers etc. Can you...

Damp in bedroom ceiling from flashing on chimney stack.

Right, I have lifted the flashing but there does not appear to be any sort of split anywhere. I am a bit uncertain as to what the purpose of that piece of plastic covering is for - perhaps it is masking some other point where water could enter? Anything look a bit iffy? :?

Having parking sensors installed. Any pitfalls?

Thanks, John, for some very useful tips. I take your point about the issue of ‘wireless’ connection twixt display and module. Coincidentally, I was talking to a mate on the phone a couple of hours ago about this and he says his own setup (bought with second-hand car) has no display at all...

Having parking sensors installed. Any pitfalls?

A chap in his eighties along the road is starting to have some difficulty in turning his neck fully, so is beginning to have problems reversing his car. He asked me about those parking sensors that bleep increasingly as one reverses closer to a stationary vehicle. Anyone able to advise on...

Damp in bedroom ceiling from flashing on chimney stack.

Thanks, CWB. I shall try to get up on to the roof in the next couple of days to check it out.

Damp in bedroom ceiling from flashing on chimney stack.

I understand that the flashing has been in place as seen for 25 years or more, so it is difficult to see why the damp ingress should have only become a problem recently. It is interesting that you should raise the issue of a back gutter, Xenon. Not being able to conceive of any other remedy do...

No, Xenon, it's more in the area marked. Please click the pic. Will try to get that moss removed, though.

Damp in bedroom ceiling from flashing on chimney stack.

Hi there We are experiencing a damp patch in the bedroom ceiling and wall when it rains – a regular occurrence, recently. I have got on to the roof to check the chimney area from where seems to be immediately above the damp area. I have poured a bucket of water over the flashing and certainly...

Boiler not igniting when thermostat bypassed.

A central heating system has stopped working following a new thermostat being replaced. This is a general system boiler, vented with pumped CH and gravity HW. The boiler ignites properly for the HW, but the pump does not respond despite the thermostat being on. I have checked the stat with a MM...

    fish and veg?

Well worth having fish as a major part of your diet, ColJack, especially things like sardines, mackerel and anchovies, as they are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. In rare instance too much O-3 can result in internal bleeding, so it might be worth playing safe and asking the doc, if you are unsure...
