Quick update... Managed to find a replacement pressure switch and got it delivered next day (thank you RS components!). Drained the tank. Checked the pressure on the air side - next to nothing. Suspected bladder failure (which is a surprise because I haven't had any symptoms like surging or air...

I'd not heard that. I thought the filter stopped the fan, ducting/vent etc. from getting gummed up with grease. If that doesn't happen or they are designed to withstand it then great. Makes life much easier.

Whatever you decide to do please do not use poison. The rat dies then gets eaten by other animals, like birds of prey, who also die. Air rifle is definitely the best way. And when you're not killing rats you can get the lads round and shoot beer cans in the garden!

Okay thanks. I'm surprised 9kw showers are only seen as tolerable or limited. I've never had any complaints with those I have used - including the one currently installed in my house.

Why would a 9.5kw water heater be limited in its performance but a 9.5kw shower not? The shower and the water heater are the same thing inside. Yes the flow rate needed for the shower is lower but the water heater is going to supply a flow rate the same as the shower. So there's no difference...
