Thanks for your reply. On closer inspection, there are two of these valves, the other is a Honeywell F3-9601. The affected one is in the "Auto" position. What do they do and if it's now not working, how will this affect my heating and hot water?

Good points. Ultimately, I'm trying to reduce cost. I use my current dimmers to light stairs and hallway, and also my office, where I don't always need such bright light.

I want to replace these bulbs with the low energy equivalents, but do I need to change the bulb holders and do I also need to change the dimmer switch as I’ve seen there are two types of dimmers called leading edge and trailing edge, but I’m unsure what I would need. Thanks for your help.

Although the kitchen and dining room are nearby I doubt they put the transformers outside of the kitchen. In reality I just don't know. Will update the thread when I find the answer. Thanks for all the help.

One other thought. Could faulty transformers connected to the cabinet lighting cause this?
