    Conservatory

Stupid conservatory design imo. Dug out all the polystyrene in the cavity to find ants had made a colony. We are wanting to tile the floor but that cavity isn't our friend. Would it be that much of an issue just to fill it with concrete with a waterproofer added to the mix?

    DIY electrics!!

So, a few years ago I popped round to a friends house and he filled me in on a slight blunder he'd made regarding his electrics. And no, this wasn't me as my brother is an electrician and I seek advice when it's needed! Not that it was needed here! Anyhow! Basically, the fuse blew for his...

    Stove questions.....

I'll just add my thoughts......! I'm having a 6kw Scan dedicated woodburner fitted next week. Pricey at 2k for the stove alone! But the missus likes it!!! Plus I'm getting drilled a new one for the installation, but needs must, and I just want it done! You'll be surprised how much heat a stove...

Making good lime mortar for painting

Excuse the soot.....that will be getting cleaned up. And the original stonework has been hacked to bits. Gutted as I can see how it would have looked originally and it would have been great. I'll build it back up with an sbr slurry coat and sbr render.

Making good lime mortar for painting

After uncovering the existing fireplace and knocking off the old lime render of my solid stone house. I've got it back to the stonework and want to paint it kind of how it is now. I'm having a new woodburner stove fitted a week on Thursday, it's a covector stove so the rear of the fireplace...

    Stove installation quote

Will do bud. The whole wall is getting stripped back to the original on Tuesday. I dread to think of what it'll be like. Pictures will follow!

    Stove installation quote

Original hearth laid in place of floor boards. 3ft from wall, 4ft wide. Unsure how far back it goes but I'll guess all the way. Tiling on top, then built up again for the stove to sit on.

    Stove installation quote

Excuse the gash picture as I've just taken it on my tablet. The red line is what I've just drawn with a marker. It represents where the original stone lintel is. It's roughly 5ft 5inch high. Utter pig of a job taking this out. Boiler stove which has been built in well, but the flue was...

    Stove installation quote

Had a nice chap round today saying it'll only cost a days labour at 400 quid. I'm guessing it'll be 2 blokes. He also said it costs 55 quid for the HETAS registration, and that includes a co2 alarm. Thanks Doggit, your reply was what I was hoping for......a bit of reassurance from someone who...

Apologies. I thought this was a discussion forum. Didn't realise that every post must contain a question.

    Stove installation quote

Just thought I'd post this up here for a bit of amusement! Recently had a quote to supply and install a multifuel stove. I live in an end of terrace circa 1900 stone built cottage. Chimney is on the gable end. I'm ripping out my old inset stove and opening up the original fireplace/inglenook...

    HardiBacker Board - Gap Behind

Hey there! I'll soon be doing the same as you once my old inset stove is ripped out! I had to read your query a few times as it's as if you've missed out a chunk of the story! Anyhow, it's my understanding the this 'gap' you're talking about refers to the distance between the stove, and the...
