I'll go with sleeve anchors, screws with big washers just seems to be a poor solution.

Recomendations For the Right Fixings Please

Thanks for replying, Do you mean the ordinary plugs and screws? Wouldn't the screws required have to be massive to not get pulled into the 10mm holes? Aren't they normally for doors/windows and the like? And as per woodys suggestion wouldn't the screws need massive heads?

Recomendations For the Right Fixings Please

Hi all, I will be fitting a keyclamp style handrail to a raised driveway, I have the following brackets to fix to the walls (6 in total). The holes for the brackets are 10mm before galvanising and I whilst I originally thought I would use 10mm fixings I think it will be very unlikely that I...

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

It's really got your goat hasn't it, respectfully I was really asking for advice with regards to making a hole in the wall aspect and any advice given with respect to that has been taken on board and adhered to, I might add you added nothing to the thread until I posted the finished door pic...

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

Nonsense, you're all being a bit overactive, the only people who use it will be familiar with it, I'll post a pic of the step when done so you can all criticise that too. (n)

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

I definitely will be, it's too high to not, expect I'll construct it with a bit of reclaimed decking or similar, so glad we did the door, it's already been a godsend this weekend.

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

Thought I'd update the thread, had the door fitted now, they did an OK job, not overly impressed with the cracks in the wall, think they could have been a bit more careful to avoid that but there we go, seems to me it cracked where they drilled it to get the strongboys in, they also drilled...

Oh so it seems the wall is thicker by the door, see pic:

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

Thanks guys, this is more useful, the step will be what it is, 99.9% of the time it will only be me accessing the door so I think familiarity with an awkward set up will be fine. I'm sure I've read on here several times that 100mm bearing is OK for a smallish opening, but that's no problem if I...

Little bump, any structural issue's anyone can envisage? 100mm high concrete lintel?

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

OK, well perhaps I'll just forget about getting BC approval. Cheaper to buy an indemnity if necessary anyway though I expect to leave this house in a box. External door position will be more like this:

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

I'll add a step of some type, it's not great but no other choice, my desire to have a pass door outweighs any concerns about access, actually I think on the external pic it would be further to the right than I have indicated.

    Repair (bodge) a step

Well two years on and we have just moved house, despite a hairline crack appeared at the narrow bit about two days after I cast it the step remained fine and solid despite the kids jumping up and down on it etc.

Any Issues With Fitting A Door Here?

I have a single skinned garage I would like to add a side door too, it's dense blockwork AFAIK (at east it's a beast to drill), I'm aware that strictly speaking Building Control Approval will be needed, I guess a simple concrete lintel with a 100mm bearing each end will suffice. It will be at...
