    sealing compression fittings

Hello, I've been revamping my bathroom and have used some 15mm compression fittings under the floor which is to be tiled. All the joints are fine with the gravity feed system, but I want to add a combi boiler at a later date. Is there something I can use on the olives of the joints, just to...

    cavity wall air bricks

Hello all, I'm working my way around our dormer bungalow, sorting out each room in turn, we want cavity wall insulation and I'm sleeving the air bricks that are below the suspended wooden floor,as I'm under the floor anyway sorting out plumbing and things, it makes sense for me to do it. My...

    Felt carpet with underlay

Hi, we have bought a fet backed carpet and a ribbed rubber underlay. The carpet chap said we should not use grip strips and sold us a can of spray on glue. Should we stick the underlay to the floorboards first, then the carpet to the underlay? many thanks for any tips.

    Oil combi versus system

We have a Worcester Danesmoor 20/25, not sure how old, currently using about £35 of oil a week.I'm sure we can improve on that with a new boiler and a decent control system.

    Oil combi versus system

I've been reading a few posts and get the impression that the idea of replacing my Bosch oil system boiler and vented HW tank with a Bosch oil combi boiler may be frowned upon by the pros among you. I would be glad to hear of experiences or advice. Because the house is a dormer style bungalow...

    Central Heating pumps

many thanks for all the posts. We shall not be a using backboiler with a sealed system. We shall prob change the system boiler for a new oil condensing combiboiler(if such a thing exists). This way we get rid of hot water tank and have a multifuel without a back boiler. Just hope the old pumps...

    Central Heating pumps

So perhaps a better idea would be to do away with the back boiler and just have a multifuel to heat the lounge, a unvented tank for the mixer shower and hot water, and a suitable control system? Is it possible to regulate the temps of the tank and the radiators at different levels, given that...

    Central Heating pumps

Not even with a pressure relief valve, like in a combi-boiler. sorry if it's a stupid question.

    Central Heating pumps

Thanks for the reply, I've just checked the "Hot water only" position on the controller and the other pump, the SMC Controller isn't turning at all. Myson seemed to be saying it should, though very quietly. This is similar to the commodore but with 3 ports. We want to replace the whole system...

    Central Heating pumps

My old commodore 130-45 pump has packed up, Myson the new owners of the firm say a CP35 will be a direct replacement, but I've seen a DAB pump at Toolstation (local to me, hence no postage) does anyone know if this also would be a straight swap? Many thanks

    2 Pumps in heating circuit

Hello, I've got an oil fired boiler which is OK, but the pumps in the system are packing up. There are 2 very similar looking pumps connected in series. one says controller on it and the other just has some numbers. They are fairly old I would guess, so could I replace them with a single modern...

    New to rendering

Hi, I've built a couple of retaining walls on the garden boundary and now want to render and finish with a tyrolean finish. I've got 50/50 sand, cement, waterproof PVA, a bag of hydrated lime and a plastisiser. The block walls are pretty true and should not need a very thick rendering. I just...
