The only real problem with ‘cube adapters’ is mechanical in that they tend to droop out of the socket and be prone to getting the odd kick or bash with a vacuum cleaner. Electrically, provided they’re fused, they’re as safe as any other multi-way.

Thanks John. Finally got round to getting it up on a bench for a look. Belt was still there but not on pulleys. Bit of a fankle but got it cleaned up a bit, back on and it now self-propels again.
A club I belong to has an elderly Honda Izy 16" mower. Runs and cuts fine but it's supposed to self propel and doesn't. The lever to engage the drive generates a bit of springy resistance when it's pulled and the mower does seem a bit more resistant to pulling backwards then but it won't move on...
