A club I belong to has an elderly Honda Izy 16" mower. Runs and cuts fine but it's supposed to self propel and doesn't. The lever to engage the drive generates a bit of springy resistance when it's pulled and the mower does seem a bit more resistant to pulling backwards then but it won't move on its own. No idea where to start. Anyone?

The first thing to do is to check that the drive belt is still there.....tip the mower back on its handles and you can just see it under the blade cover.
The gearboxes are pretty reliable on these, and drive is engaged by the cable pulling a lever on the top of it.

Thanks John. Finally got round to getting it up on a bench for a look. Belt was still there but not on pulleys. Bit of a fankle but got it cleaned up a bit, back on and it now self-propels again.

Good stuff!
Not sure if you noticed but the gearbox has a spring connecting it to the cutter deck.....If the spring is missing, the belt isn't under tension.
