Hi i have a well used about 7 year old Mountfield self propelled (was!!) lawnmower. It no longer drives itself i have to push it,this i can cope with, but it will not pull backwards, the wheels appear to be locked,is there anything i can do to free this? It still cuts fine so am loathe to buy a new one.
Cheers Paul

Remove the back wheels (one at a time) and you'll probably see a plastic gear wheel within the wheel itself, and also a small steel gear pinion that drives it.
Remove the circlip and pull the gear away - you should see a ratchet peg inside that you can remove.
Do one wheel at a time, clean all of the grease away, and keep the bits strictly in order.
