RE:knotting in your paintwork,
I bought Zinsser oil based cover stain shellac paint to paint over the knotting instead of homebases undercoat primer, you can buy it from decorator trade centres (not found in B&Q.)
Leave knotting solution to dry overnight then paint Zinsser cover stain next day, leave to dry then put your top coat on.
