Rang guy who did my kitchen 3.5 years ago and got him to get original plumber to come out.
Turned on filler tap and he confirmed that gurgling under kitchen floor was indedd a leak.
Lifted 'click together' floor tiles and shifted floor board access and low and behold one of the pipes...
unfortunately plumber geyser who turned up turned that Big black adjustable stop cock things when he first turned up so if that's the isolating valve it's too late.
anyway, the plot thickens. I have always been sure that water is entering the pipes so I gave it another blast late last night...

Like I said in an earlier post, when plumber came round and disconnected the braided pipe from both ends and turned the filler tap on - water gushed out

Accept you guys are experts but earlier descriptions have thrown me a bit.
So we are now talking about a connection at the opposite end of where the filler tap is. The braided pipe at the opposite end connects to another brass coupling that has a black square knob on it which say's...
but when the braided pipe was disconnected and plumber from next door turned the filler tap on, water was coming out of that valve in the direction of the arrow
no water in the radiators upstairs - water present in the radiators downstairs. Had the filler tap on for about 20 mins and still no water getting to upstairs radiators although I think I can hear it.

when I turn filler tap I can hear water moving.
Where is the non return valve and what does it look like - sorry but I can't see anything in the manual on diagrams with that name
