Wiring help with changing switches - 1970's house

Think I'm finally getting somewhere thanks to you lot. Finally, and just to be safe, as someone said above, I should leave the earth alone unless it has a metal switch right? The switch plate is steel but the actual switch is plastic - I take it this is okay and doesn't need earthing (as the...

Wiring help with changing switches - 1970's house

We are changing all the light switches and sockets in our living room which is inside a house built in the 1970's and so has pre 2004 wiring colours. I took the light switch off and had a look at the wiring - there was only a red (live) and black (neutral) attached to the back of the old...

    Mist coat inconsistant..

We had two walls skimmed recently as they were in really poor condition but the other walls seemed okay - they had never been painted but had wallpaper on them which we removed. I did a mist coat on all the walls (one coat) using a matt white with about 30% water 70% paint. The newly...

They look good and smooth now, but when I asked his advice re prepping and painting them, he said that after they have dried, sand them down then use use...

Advice needed - what is it and how to fix?

About 15 years old. It's odd as the other 3 walls are fine with good plaster underneath none of this pink board and brown card stuff. We could scrape all the pink board and brown card off but I think it would take weeks and would leave a really damaged base plaster.

Advice needed - what is it and how to fix?

Just to describe this better, the first pic shows all areas. On the left of the pic the light grey is the base plaster underneath everything. The light brown areas are a thin card type material that sheds slightly when wet and the pink areas are probably plasterboard. I can't remove the brown...

Advice needed - what is it and how to fix?

Thanks - as you can see on the photo of the main wall, it seems to be in patches. We started scraping through whatever this was to get to the grey plaster underneath so some areas are just the pink 'plasterboard', some are this pink 'plasterboard' with this brown card type substance and some...
