Oil tanks - vertical vs. horizontal

The tanks I'm looking at (2500 EHB horizontal and EVB vertical from https://www.envirostoreuk.com/tank-range/bunded-tanks/) are both fully bunded. The horizontal one does have a slightly smaller footprint (2.50m2 vs 2.64m2) but occupies a considerably bigger overall area (3.41m2 vs 2.64m2) so...

Oil tanks - vertical vs. horizontal

"Vertical" oil tanks are cheaper than "horizontal" ones. If space isn't an issue, do horizontal tanks have any advantages that make them worth the extra cost?

    Oil-fired boiler problem

Sorry stix, I wasn't ignoring you - I just missed the EBI unit from the list of things that I would be happy to try swapping out myself. As I said though, the pump is shot anyway. There doesn't seem much point in continuing until that's replaced, and advice on this forum seems to be to leave...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

I managed to stop the leak from the pump (temporarily at least - it's dripping again now) but it was locking out even when there wasn't so much as a hint of leak. I happened to be next to the boiler at one point when it locked out. It had stopped reached temperature and stopped burning, and I...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

No such luck :( It ran for 7+ hours after I had cleaned the inline filter, but then it locked out again. It's now back to running for an hour or less after resets. I've now identified a leak from the pump, so I'm guessing that's the root of the problem. I'm at a loss to explain why it worked...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

Thanks for the tip. It's now been running for 3.5hrs without locking out though so, with any luck...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

Sounds a bit like Schrodinger's cat :) I think I know what you mean though. I remember when we had serial problems with a [gas] condensing boiler the engineers had the advantage of carrying various spares, as you describe, and could just swap components out to see if the problems went away -...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

I already tried that. I noticed an oil leak from the underside of the pump when I last checked. It seemed to be coming from what I think is a blanking plug (don't have the diagrams in front of me at the moment). I tightened that a tad which seemed to stop the leak, and I ran it for a while with...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

Well, we did have an oil delivery fairly recently, but that was over a week ago. The tank was getting quite low, so I guess crud in the bottom could have got stirred up I cleaned the filter in the pump, but it didn't seem grotty anyway. I looke carefully at the oil that I bled off but it looked...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

I checked the braided hose while I had everything open, and it seemed OK to me. Unfortunately I didn't read the recommendation to replace it periodically until after I got back from town with the replacement nozzle... Yes, there is an oil tap inside the casing. The instructions said to turn...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

@Burnerman: The smell was of kerosene, not exhaust. I hadn't noticed smoke at the flue, just water vapour (or that's what I've always assumed it was). I don't have have the equipment to check the pressure and CO2, so I stayed well away from any adjustments - I just wanted to get it running well...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

Thanks spraggo - I've given it a good clean and I'm trying to source a new nozzle before I put it back together and give it a try.

    Oil-fired boiler problem

Ummm... No, I'm afraid I have to confess it hasn't been serviced in the 3 years we've been here <blush>. I've not worked on an oil-fired system before, but I became quite familiar with the gas-fired condensing boiler at our previous home. I've dug out the manual for this one and it details...

    Oil-fired boiler problem

Danesmoor Worcester (15/19). Recently noticed a bit of an oil smell from the boiler but no obvious leak and apparently working OK. This morning it locked out. Reset OK, but locked out again after a couple of hours, and subsequent resets only lasted perhaps half an hour. Any pointers for...
