It's just that I have a full new tub of putty and linseed oil, no primer and was hoping to dodge going out for it!

Can I use linseed oil as a primer on my window for linseed oil window putty?
I read that an oil-based primer must be used with putty to stop the dry wood sucking out the oil in the putty.
If I just neatly wiped the window frame with a smear of linseed oil, would this work?

I experimented with SBR as described above: neat, 1:1 and 1:2. Neat works best as the plasterboard seems firmer.
