Cheers for the info, there's 250mm from the bottom of the hob to the consumer unit, so plenty of room for pipe access to stay over 150mm. Worktops are coming in the morning so I'll go ahead and cut a big hole in it.

I recently drained my central heating down (to change the pump) and ever since I have been getting a drip from the drain valve, I've made sure it's tightly closed but it still drips. Do I need to replace it or is it repairable?

Cheers for your comments, the pump is the right way round. I just checked when I last had it serviced and I have someone coming round to do it on Thursday (it's been longer than I thought). Just been out and noticed that Transco have got the road dug up which may be relevant. I'll let you know...
