Having tried to get as much info as I could I've given up, I'm hoping to sell the car and fingers crossed recoup the money I've spent on it. We've only had it a few months!.
If it helps, I was in touch with a guy from Birmingham who said he worked on the electrics when they were implemented. He said for the cost of some beer he can give an exact fault code (which nissan can't) and reset the ecu so that you can install a second hand part.
