    Syphon Spillover grr.....

Thanks Nige - I realised my second mistake of the day and went back and edited the original post. Must have just beat you to it. Thanks!

    Syphon Spillover grr.....

Abouty to install a replacement WC, and wanted to utilise 'internal overflow' rather than connecting the external one due to lack of an outside wall to take a pipe through.... On looking at the plastic syphon, I couldn't see where the internal overflow was - I was expecting to see some sort...

Replacement water supply pipe - couple of questions

Just called dwr cymru a second time for another opinion - spoke to someone else, and got a different story.....probably better if I leave the trench open, the guy said. :x Me: I don't really want to. It's going to take a while to dig it all out, and I don't really want my small children...

Replacement water supply pipe - couple of questions

htgeng - PM on its way. Still interested if anyone else can offer views on ease of installing this system vs. the conventional method. (...or if anyone can confirm whether their water company were happy to have the majority of the trench filled in before inspection !)

Replacement water supply pipe - couple of questions

[Starting a new topic for this on corgiman's advice :)] I read on some previous posts here about using an Insuduct as an alternative to bringing the water supply pipe into the property below ground. (I'm shortly to embark on waper pipe replacement, and the idea of hanging down a 2ft 6 hole...

    Replacing water feed from mains

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm interested in this insuduct thing (I'm shortly to embark on waper pipe replacement, and the idea of hanging down a 2ft 6 hole (even if its a FBH) trying to tunnel through the foundations of a victorian (mostly stone) wall isn't something I'm looking...

    Another cracked ceiling question

This is about the ceilings in a house we're about to move to - they seem basically sound, just very cracked. They've also got a strange effect created with shallow wood batoning fixed to the the lower surface of the ceiling, in a pattern reminiscent of half-bond brickwork, where each rectangle...

Laying Vinyl over quarry tiles/existing vinyl

Matty - Just found this post as we're in exactly the same situation. We have old quarry tiles in our kitchen (Victorian mid-terrace) which are not in excellent condition, and so we're contemplating levelling over the top and then either laying vinyl or slate tiles. As far as I know, the...

    Draining CH system

Hi, Sorry - just to clarify - are you saying to keep the water coming through into the F&E tank while you're draining off the rads? (The reply to the last question suggests I need to turn the water off). Thanks in advance!

    Draining CH system

We've got an open vented central heating system with a F&E tank in the loft and feed and return pipes to all the radiators. There's currently a couple of bottles of sludge remover in the system, which has been doing the rounds for about a month, and now needs to come out and have an inhibitor...

    Blockage in heated towel rail

Excellent! I poked a straightened-out paper clip through the vent valve, and within seconds it was full of piping hot water! (oh yeah - I should have remembered the bit about shutting the valves down first, but I didn't get too wet in the process......). Many thanks for the advice - it seems...

    Blockage in heated towel rail

Thanks - I'll give that a try tonight and let you know how I get on.

    Blockage in heated towel rail

Hi there - yes, the pipe leading to the flow valve gets hot. The valve itself feels hot, but it doesn't go much further. The rail was already fitted when we moved into the house 3 years ago, although I'd say it's a bit older than that.

    Blockage in heated towel rail

I've got a heated towel rail which is fitted in parallel with a radiator in the bathroom (the pipework tees off below the radiator flow/return pipes and goes into the towel rail valves). There used to be a blockage somewhere in this, which meant that the top couple of inches never got warm water...

    Painting over previously woodstained shed

Hi, I've got an old shed which is going to be taken apart and reconsituted into a kids play house. At the moment it's got a (faded) light brown wood stain on it, but I'd like to paint a lighter colour. I've got two questions about the practicalities of this..... 1. What would I need to use...
