Posting this quick fix as finding it could save someone a call out charge or wasted effort to dismantle a Tumble Dryer. In this case a Bosch Serie 4 model but could apply to just about any front loader I would imagine. Symptom was quite loud metallic scraping sound when drum was spinning which...
Okay so now had the issue investigated and fixed and it turned out to be a corroded heating loop inside the cylinder that was passing the potable water from the cylinder into the heating loop and thereby kept over-pressuring the boiler to 3 bar. To prove the diagnosis my plumber disconnected...
Many thanks for the suggestions - much appreciated. I will investigate to see if there is any other filling loop although I did go through the whole system with the guy who installed it and he only showed me the braided loop point and this has two shut offs and for belt and braces I have...
Hi
I have a Glow Worm 30SI boiler that has just started failing with over pressure. The filling loop is disconnected and I drained the boiler down from the drain valve to get the pressure back to 1 bar. I have it switched off at the control to not come on but to still show the pressure and it...
thanks for the reply - yes I now see having taken a closer look at the pipework that the Varem EV is sitting on the cold water circuit to the unvented tank so nothing to do with the expansion of the hot water in the boiler circuit. I did have the drain valve open on the boiler when I tried to...
Hi
I have a 30SI boiler that has started to exhibit a problem that it goes from 1 bar cold to flashing a warning of 3 bar when hot. I isolated the boiler then drained it down and connected my electronic pressure gauge/pump to the expansion vessel valve at the back of the boiler. It read almost...
The PRV does sound as if it is leaking - in which case it does need replacing as you will forever be topping up the pressure and it can drop off so low as to cause the boiler to fail to start. Does also sound like you need to fix the cause first though - if you are seeing 3 bar the whole time...
I've had this problem 3 times in 10 years - each was a different reason for pressure loss. First was the pressure release valve (PRV) leaking - this is the easiest to look for - on the outside wall where the boiler is located should be the overflow pipe - put a jam jar under it and if it fills...
First you need to switch the boiler off, then turn off the water supply and return - generally the quarter turn valves in the pipes that go into the boiler. At this point you can drain down the boiler - as you are replacing the PRV you can press the lever (if it has one) to discharge the water...
Or replace brakes on cars etc etc etc etc. The purpose of this site is to help people - I think he wants to just have a simple banner saying "if you have a problem pay £285 for a call out".
Spoken like someone who charges huge rates for simple fixes I guess. As it happens I have a degree in engineering and I have routinely found I know more about my boiler than the engineers who have been out to try to fix it. I've stripped the entire thing down in the past to give it a proper...
I had similar problem - when I traced what was going on I found the the controller on my motorised valve had broken. The thermostat is wired up to the valve - and only if the valve opens will the boiler get the demand signal - I guess to avoid the boiler pumping against a closed valve. If you...
I had similar issue with Glow Worm 30 Si - would leak a bar in a day. Couldn't find any leaks in the house and the PRV was fine with no water coming out of it into the external pipe. After much agony in searching I got in an experienced engineer who found a small split in the heat exchanger -...
