    Blocked drain - inspection chamber

There's no doubting that I was confused Hugh! The manhole cover at the front looked very promising but as I realize now was just to take away surface. I'll get him to sort his conifer out. As the guy from XXX XXX said "Conifers, the drain clearers friend". All the best

    Blocked drain - inspection chamber

Well, of course, I thought it was going to be one of those 15 minute easy jobs that makes me look like a fool for not having the snake to put down. In the end it was 3 hours (he's capped it at that and is still here, nearly four hours later). He has enjoyed some of my best coffee and a Flake...

    Blocked drain - inspection chamber

Thanks for the advice. The majority just looked like clumps of grease and washing powder when eventually it flooded down. It took a hell of a pounding. Made worse by the access point we needed at a neighbours having a fence built over the top. As you say, why people build on them... I'll try...

    Blocked drain - inspection chamber

Thanks for both responses. I had another go but called the pros in this AM. He's having a toughish time at the moment. The manhole cover had been patio'd over some decade or more ago so has now been dug out and was completely full. He's jetting it and I can see the next door neighbour's is...

    Blocked drain - inspection chamber

Hello, I've been trying to unblock a kitchen/garden drain and lifted the inspection chamber to the front of the house to see what was in there. I found 6 or so inlets. These presumably come from my and surrounding houses. I'd bought a set of rods but the inlets in my house's direction...

    Designa Sockets

Thanks again Chri5, I will bear that in mind when making the decision - does anyone else have an opinion on these, good or bad?

    Designa Sockets

Thanks Chri5 - I'm not doing it for the price though, it just so happens these are cheaper. It's the fact they are slimmer which attracts me (well, the other half) - I take your point and have used MK LPs last time around - I'd just like to know if anyone has used these ones successfully before...

    Designa Sockets

Can't do much better - saw them in a local trade catalogue next to the likes of MK and they looked competitive but as you say, I don't want to bother if they are really poor. Just don't know anything about them.

    Designa Sockets

Just about to set about changing the sockets, light switches etc in my house and was thinking of using MK Logic Pluses but I saw these Designa ones - seem cheap and was wondering whether to go for them. Would anybody recommend them (or to steer clear of them)? I don't want to bother if it's a...

    Thermostatic vs Non-Thermostatic Shower

I've told him to order the thermostatic and let the landlord know (he's very good like that!). It's an extra 200 notes of course but the labour is really good value.

    Thermostatic vs Non-Thermostatic Shower

My landlord's plumber has ordered a replacement for a scaled up Bristan Pisa shower by ordering a Java. Now, I didn't think at the time but the price was so cheap I've just checked the net and guessed that the Java is a non-thermostatic type whereas the Pisa was thermo. The hot water runs...

Smell of gas at the meter in kitchen cupboard

I have a huge propensity to withstand nagging. Besides, there's always the rubber hose.

Smell of gas at the meter in kitchen cupboard

Kev - my main point was about whether I would actually get some cert. or other giving it a clean bill of health and whether something that had been checked out ok previously would be considered an emergency and also free or not. If he couldn't have fixed it within half an hour I'd have had to...

Smell of gas at the meter in kitchen cupboard

Wales & West utilities came within the hour after I rang the National Grid number. He didn't find anything wrong with his first gadget but with his sniffer he found a small leak in the regulator. Looks very much like the developer (this house is only 4 years old and has leaked since day one)...
