Return valve and pipe are always cold even after rad flush

John My boiler is not combi, so guess there is a blockage or poor flow then. Its microbore pipework. Just checked the CH header tank and it has about 6 inches of water, sitting about an inch below the overflow pipe.

Return valve and pipe are always cold even after rad flush

Thanks for the post. I've balanced all rads using radiator thermometers and all seem ok. The pump as far as I know is operating ok, but not sure how to check this. I have previously closed off all other rads in the house and it didn't make a single bit of difference

Return valve and pipe are always cold even after rad flush

Hi. CH radiator in the living room is causing some concern and will not heat up correctly. It a 1200mm double radiator with a TRV. It heats at the top and probably halfway down at most. I removed the rad this morning and flushed it with a hose pipe, now there was an element of blackish water but...

My central heating is taking over my life!!

I've just removed the panel that houses the hot water tank for the first time. A drayton HTS3 3 is strapped to the tank and set to 75 degrees! The mis position actuator seems to be working ok between WMH. There is a Grundfos pump set to the halfway point also.

My central heating is taking over my life!!

Thanks for all your help and advice today. Walls are def not insulated as a few of the neighbours have have it done recently and all houses here were built by the same "Burger Chain" I'll see what the cavity wall guy says when he comes and I'll post any update.

My central heating is taking over my life!!

Ah...seems like I left the floors at 1. I've re-done it and it reads as follows The WINDOW heat loss is 0.01 kW The WALL heat loss is 7.57 kW The ROOF heat loss is 2.11 kW Note down the kW readings (or print this page) then press your browser's Back button. If better insulation...

My central heating is taking over my life!!

Sorry but I wasn't on here to "bleat" about gas prices but to seek advice in general and if adding more loft insulation is one answer I will certainly look at that. Thanks for your input

My central heating is taking over my life!!

D_Hailsham The temp outside was 5 degrees at the time. Plastic internal pipes are 10mm diameter on outside and are visible going into the cavity wall. I know this because I wall mounted a tv and nearly drilled into a plastic pipe going from the rad up the internal wall! Pipes that come...

My central heating is taking over my life!!

Hi D_Hailsham The dwelling type is detached with double glazed windows with wood/plastic frames. The external walls are cavity, no insulation. The roof is pitched with 50 to 75mm of insulation. The Dwelling is in Scotland. The following three major contributors to the heat requirement...

My central heating is taking over my life!!

Thatnks for the replies. Ok, so forget the thermostat on the wall. I see that. What I have done that may affect things is turn the knob down on the boiler from 6 to 3. I "assumed" that this would be wasting gas thus giving me a higher gas bill. So I'll turn it back up and see what happens...

My central heating is taking over my life!!

Hi...Gas bills have now gone up to £144 per month so I decided to investigate our usage and if the heating system was operating correctly. We live in Scotland so are used to the heating being on day and night sometimes. Our house always seems cold so we genrally have the thermostat up at 30...
