Actually when I say I replaced the valve, I didn't actually replace the plumbing part of the valve, just the actuator part, - the motor and electronics.

Have you got up to date AntiVirus and Spyware checker? Sounds suspicious if you can't find what it is and it may be something trying to install itself but failing (perhaps) because of the account restrictions.

If you don't have much luck with drivers then try alternative screen plugged into the laptop. If that looks OK but the laptop screen is still looking like that then you may have a faulty screen or ribbon connector. The connector is inside but can can damaged or unseated if the screen is bent way...

Paint your base colour, say brown, then paint over the top with finished color, say white. Then roughen up bits, around the edges, then sand those bits down with fine sandpaper.
