So I decided to leave off tampering with wires as it just seemed too fiddly (and dangerous). I drilled a hole in the unit instead to pass the power cord through. I reattached the plug i’d initially cut off and also extended the length of the cable so it would reach the nearest socket. Problem...
Hey, yes I checked as I’ve had this problem before. The screws were all sitting firmly on the copper wire end and I made sure to tug gently to see that they didn’t fall out
Oh ok. Yes screws in the connectors are sitting fine and touching the copper wiring.
Well the 13a was fine and I swapped the dead 3a for a 5a, so technically they’re both fine if that’s what you mean?
I don’t see any screws. It’s just the grey cable coming from the hoods. There are other wires but they’re all tucked in:
I got the old hood back from the skip!
Re-wired and now it won’t work :( have I somehow managed to ruin it?
Noticed this from old hood. The earth wire I thought was...
I’m so sad. Swapped the dead fuse with the 5a and then re-wired the unit (Grey cable is unit, and white is from the wall). Still no luck :(
Have I wired it incorrectly?
So I made an error (so sorry!)
The two fuse boxes aren’t the same amp. One is 13a and the other I’ve just seen is 3a.
I’ve tested the 13a fuse with my microwave and it worked fine. The 3a however was dead... could this be the issue?
The new hood is 5a if that’s of any help
Hey thank you for this advice.
I’m just confused why the wire from the wall isn’t working suddenly when it was fine
moments before with the previous hood. I was very careful in taking it off and turned the power off from the fuse (not worth risking electrocution), and I also made sure that the...
I don’t know if the fuses are good. I assumed they were if the previous hood I took off worked? Sadly I don’t have a multimeter either.
I wish I knew what they were used for but I’ve just moved in so I don’t know much about the electrical of the place :(
What would be a safe item to test a...
Thanks for the responses all.
So I actually connected the blue and brown wires to the blue and brown cable coming out of the wall and taped off the earth. When I tested it, it didn’t work. What could I be doing wrong?
As a test, I re-wired the hood cable and it worked when I plugged it in...
Hi all,
Slight disaster here. Bought an extractor hood from ikea with fused plug (5amp).
The older unit it’s replacing was hard-wired from a wire coming through the wall with one of those terminal blocks. Easy I thought, I’ll just swap them over as I managed to hard wire the cooker and heater...
