Sorry mate I might have got the wrong end of the stick here. Is this period restoration work ie for listed building repairs or the easiest way of doing it with modern materials. If its the latter i have used tile adhiesive a well and does grab well. good luck

Cut clasp nails work well for skirting, door linings etc not much use for shelves though.

Metal cutting jigsaw blade on low speed has worked for me in the past and clean up with a fine metal file. Lay the metal on a wodden bench to stop wobble. Good luck and mark ot line with fine felt pen (OHP) or masking tape.

Mostly used for general building. Already have a decent makita corded jigsaw which is all i need as not used very often. Have got by with basic 14.4v makita drill/driver but dropped it from a height too many times and it broke. Really though I want something for screwing with more power but...
