Gasman....thanks for identifying this as a wireless system. Unfortunately there was no wireless room stat when i moved in!!
So please tell me what I can do here?
Either find a the wireless part or can I wire in a mechanical room stat which will work with the programmer?

If everyone can see the pictures. My boiler has a programmer built in to the fascia pic1. You will just see that it has a Room Stat section with buttons ON and SIGNAL and in between them the word LEARN.

Does a battery operated stat mean that there is a receiver unit wired to the boiler and the sender is elsewhere working on batteries?

i have now dismantled the rogue valve in the upstairs flow pipe
the motor is working
the micro-switch appears to be working
when the lever is pushed towards the manual/open position it does not spring back like the lever on the downstairs valve which springs back

but just one puzzle.....do these valves actually move....can you see or hear them move :?:
i have turned the system on and off at the electrics and the controller but the valves never appear to move :?: :!:

i have now found that the valve in the upstairs flow pipe appears to stay in the manual position when pushed that way. the valve in the downstairs pipe springs back to auto position when pushed
what does this mean please :?:
the valves are honeywell v4043h1106

oops...sorry...forgot to ask which position is valve closed and which position is valve open please
at the moment with the controller now off the both valve levers are pointing to the auto position

thanks for suggestion about controller being knackered perhaps....although it appears to be coming on at the right time set and going off at the right time...???
as for testing the valve in the manner described please tell me what it means if the valve springs back or does not spring...
