as far as i know it's a pumped open vent system, if the problem was as you described, wouldn't the air be present in other rads too? this particular rad is about the 3rd in line, and neither rad each side of it have any problems

every 3 or 4 weeks i have to bleed one rad in our central heating system, in my daughters bedroom, and each time i'm guessing it's about half full of air, there's no obvious water leaks, my theory being, if there's air going in, there should be water coming out? or is that the wrong way to look...
