    Truss parallel to ridge

hi I am looking in to putting a roof on my garage. The back half of the garage is a flat concrete roof which has already been constructed. The front half of the roof will be a tiled, hipped roof. Now the problem... The hipped roof can place no load on the concrete roof so all load must be...

    wet room floor

Hi, I'm currently doing a wet room on the first floor. I'm using a marmox showerstone tray with marmox board on the rest of the floor and the Mira tanking kit. I have boarded between the joists (400mm apart) in 18mm WBP, however the joists were not level (about 1/2 inch lower at one side...

    bathroom circuit - expert needed!

riveralt - sorry - my reply was not in any way aimed at you - I apologise if I caused any offence - this was certainly not my intention - your suggestion is fine - however I wanted to be able to flick all lights on with one switch - this wouldn't be that easy with a dimmer in a grid with a...

    bathroom circuit - expert needed!

Thanks EFLImpudence - I thought this was probably the case, but was worried some dimmers might be intelligent PCBs which would cause a problem. My response was aimed at ban-all-sheds. I get a bit frustrated sometimes that posters on this forum are more intent on demonstrating their...

    bathroom circuit - expert needed!

Thanks for the advice, but that doesn't answer my question. This is supposed to be a DIY message board for people to learn - I'm looking for the information so I can design the bathroom circuits before talking to electricians and the building regs people. I'm trying to determine what's...

    bathroom circuit - expert needed!

I want to have two settings for my bathroom lights - all on or just those over the bath on. I will put those over the bath on one circuit and the rest on another. I will have a two pole switch which switches both circuits and a single pole switch which switches just the lights over the bath...

    Hansgrohe shower

Hi, I'm currently doing up my bathroom and so need a new shower. I have been told by a couple of suppliers that Hansgrohe are the best showers. Is that true? I would like a recessed shower valve (e.g the hansgrohe iBox), but I am worried it will be really difficult to replace/fix if it...

    DVR/Camera/PIR standards

Hi, I'm looking to build a system which has two cameras (although there may be up to 4 in the future) - one for the side of the house and one for the back. I would like it to sound an alarm inside the house on motion detection and show the current camera view on a monitor (preferably there...

    Hiding a gas pipe

There will be a hob aswell so I cannot put it on the 13.5m run. Looks like you agree with calcs though which is good. I have seen nothing from landyandy which proves it will not. I am going to a lot of trouble as I am somewhat anal. The house is rendered cream and all the waste pipes are...

    Hiding a gas pipe

    Yes - it's the 838. I calculated it as :- Kw/CV = litres/sec litres/sec *3.6 = m3/hr i.e 38/38.5 (assuming 6m3/h supply) * 3.6 = 3.55m3/hr The pipework is 22mm at the meter - it travels along the outside wall for 1m and then elbows in to the house - it runs behind the kitchen...

    Hiding a gas pipe

thanks - that's a good idea. I could line up the waste pipe clips with the gas clips. If I do that I can also fit the waste pipe afterwards if I don't like the look of the gas pipe. Thanks all - still intrigued as to why my calcs are wrong, but at least I know I can cover it now. Cheers...

    Hiding a gas pipe

Just for looks. If securing the pipe every 2.5 is a requirement then I cannot do it. I will secure the waste pipe every 1-1.5m, but I appreciate this is not the same as securing the gas pipe. Are you saying I cannot do it then?

    Hiding a gas pipe

in what way? two big or too small? I calculated I require 3.55 m3/h extending my existing 22mm run (including elbows and bends would give me an effective run of 13.5m. I calculate this to give a 0.9mbar drop. With a large (5 ring burner) hob also on the run I cannot use this route - so I have...
